Wedding Music – top tips

Music for your special day.

As well as being a Celebrant I also sing at many wedding celebrations both religious and civil, so let me share with you some hints about the choice of music and song for your special day.

Remember, the music and song you choose will be central to creating your atmosphere and to also communicate the message of your love and relationship, so it’s so important to give time and conversation to choosing those pieces. For a Civil celebration you have the flexibility to choose whatever music and song you want and celebrants such as ourselves can be a great resource with helping you pick and choose.

First thing to choose is whether you want live music and song or recorded?  If it’s recorded who will be in charge of it on the day?
Maybe you have friends and family who are musicians, do you ask them, are they good? Do you pay them? Be sure to be happy with your decisions.

Secondly: what sort of atmosphere you want to create? What type of feeling will your guests pick up on as they arrive and become part of the ceremony?
Will it be an upbeat celebration with more quick tempo music or base beats? Or would you like the more traditional atmosphere with classical music and song? The music you are picking should, as much as possible, reflect your relationship and personalities. It also so central that the pieces you pick speak to your love story which is beautiful and unique, so give some time pondering over your music.

Thirdly: where do you want to have music and song? The entrance of the wedding party / Bride / Groom. Do you have a  piece between any readings you have? After the vows / ring exchange / unity candle? Part of your love story? Do you want to exit the celebration room with a specific piece? Questions to look over as you prepare your celebration?

When you get it right, it adds so much to a beautiful day and it makes a good wedding celebration a moving and memorable moment for everyone.

Remember;  your celebrant can help you with that conversation so feel free to ask and enjoy the process.
